CCHackney Road Race 23
Held on 23rd July at Great Thurlow - the race was a National B category and had a full field E123 riders with 55 starters on the day. With a strong head wind blowing along the Withersfield road towards the hill up to the finish line conditions looked for a break away to form. After 1 lap Jack Crook of Richardsons Trek DAS and Oliver Hurdle of StolenGoat Race Team had a slight lead over the bunch. At a time of around 10:50 - 11minutes per lap the pace was relentless into the tough windy conditions. After 2laps Connor McGoldrick - Richardsons, Danylo Riwnyj - trainSharp Elite and Jordon Giles - Primera-TeamJobs had moved to the front with the bunch still not far behind. By lap 5 this trio had been joined by Oliver Hurdle and Steven Parsonage - Richardsons. This group of five would then begin to push out their advantage each lap. A group of four broke off the front of the main bunch to give chase consisting of Alex Peters - Richardsons, Clay Davies - Ride Revolution Coaching, Will Auty and Barnabas Purbrook - Sigma Sports - Cannondale RT. They never got closer than two minutes to the leading five though with Barnabas dropping further back to be joined by Nicholas Tyrie - Primera-TeamJobs and the bunch a further minute back on them. The leaders came through the finish with Conor McGoldrick taking the win, Oliver Hurdle 2nd, Jordan Giles 3rd, Steven Parsonage 4th and Danylo Riwnyj 5th. Unfortunately that's where the results had to end as behind them an incident involving the three chasing riders and an oncoming vehicle meant the race was stopped. I'm glad to report no serious injuries occurred but with one of the riders needing hospital treatment and the police on the scene the comm's had no option other than to abandon the rest of the race only 1 mile from the finish.
Wishing a speedy recovery to all those involved in the crash and the earlier crashes. Many thanks to all the volunteers with out them there would be no racing - Commisaires, Accredited marshals, CCHackney members, David and Newmarket CTC and Allan from Thurlow Sports club and the local residents who came out to view the race.
