Every Saturday morning (unless stated) we run coaching sessions for our 8 - 13 year old members with a separate group for 13+ development riders.
Sessions are either ride outs from the club to local parks or further afield for older riders - riders should be at the Cycling Club Hackney HQ - Elsdale Community Hall, Elsdale Street, London E9 6PW - for 9am. Training cost is £3.00- £5 depending on what's on the programme this session will last 2 - 3 hours. The format for training is sent out in a weekly newsletter email.
Another option for Saturday mornings: CCH's Concorde Centre Sessions for youth riders looking to join rides that explore the area with less of a focus on sports cycling and a more casual dress code; comfortable, track suits and trainers. Meeting for 9.30am at the Concorde Centre, Kingsmead Estate, Kingsmead Way, Homerton London E9 5PP. Depending on what's on the programme this session lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This group is set to go on a series of trips further afield with plans to visit Epping Forest, Hampstead Heath, Hertford Town (via River Lea tow path) & Richmond Park.
All coaching activities are provided by staff who have national governing body's British Cycling Level 2 coaching qualifications. All coaches are DBS checked and qualified with an Youth newcomers must bring a signed parent/carer consent form - you can download a form here.
Parents and carers of our youth riders are welcome to assist at training and many volunteer to so so - getting themselves some training and learning opportunities from the sessions. We ask that adult volunteers become club members and come equipped to ride.
Monday - After School Track Club - Track training - there are weekly youth track training sessions at the Lea Valley Velodrome - Mondays 5-6pm unless stated. For aged 10+. £10.00 - book on the LVV website.
Tuesday - Youth & Adult Cyclocross training Hackney Downs 6-7pm meet by large tree trunks to the north side of park - bring lights - cost £2
(if riders want to borrow a club cross bike they should speak to Prosper or Neil the Saturday before)
Tuesday - BC Eastern Region Circuit Race Development Youth Sessions - 7:30 - 9:00 Lea valley Velopark (£5 - pay at desk, sign on at circuit , consent for needed each time)
Thursday From after October half term there are weekly structured quality, after school youth training sessions available at Lea Rowing Club. This is an active part of our on going partnership with LRC. The floor and gym training is coached by charter standard qualified coaches from LRC, also in attendance on most sessions with be CCH lead coach Keir Apperley and other volunteers from the club. There is no fee but attendees must be paid up CCH members.
Thursdays 5-6pm at LRC - The Boathouse, Spring Hill, Clapton, London E5 9BL
Cycles are not permitted inside the club at LRC - suggesting that if coming by bike make it your hack bike (town knock about) and a decent lock.Attached is a list of Youth Races coming up over the next few months...
Further Training Opportunities - CCH are also part of British Cycling Eastern Track School where club riders are nominated for training sessions on the velodromes In London, Welwyn, Newport and Manchester, this open to category A, B & C riders. Speak to the coaches at CCH for more information.
Roller training and Circuit training - starting again soon - Wednesday evenings from 6 - 7pm at the club - bring rollers if you have some and trainers for doing circuit training in.
London Youth Games - CCH select and train the cycling squad of boys and girls to represent the London Borough of Hackney in the time trial and circuit race at the annually held London Youth Games.To be eligible you must be living in or attending school in Hackney. Let your coaches know if you are eligible and interested in competing.
